October 2001-Present:Sr. Systems and Network Administrator--Impulse Internet Services
- Managed servers and networking for regional ISP serving 10,000 customers in California's Central Coast.
- Designed and rebuilt company-wide email system to support spam and virus filtering for all inbound and outbound email.
- Consolidated and upgraded all servers and services onto a standard hardware and software platform.
- Implemented SIP VOIP system servicing internal company PBX and DSL/Wireless customers.
- Merged two multi-homed networks into a single ASN with an integrated BGP and OSPF configuration.
January 2000-August 2001:Director of Computing--Chemistry Department, University of Chicago
- Responsible for all computing in Chemistry Department (~250 machines and personnel).
- Planned and implemented migration of Departmental computers from single to multiple subnets.
- Co-Built a 32-node Debian Linux based Beowulf cluster for widespread university use. Wrote shell and CGI based system for account and disk management.
- Wrote a collection of GPLed scripts (both shell and CGI) for
sharing cd-images across the university network.
- Maintained and Installed all Unix and Linux based computational machines in the Department.
- Supported Windows and Macintosh machines in the Department.
June 1998-Present:Systems Administrator--Heckman Group,National Opinion Research Center
- Primary Systems Administrator for systems used by 100-125 users.
- Maintained and insured availability of four HP-UX based servers used for statistical analysis and Internet connectivity.
- Proposed and implemented the upgrade of the HP-UX servers and workstations from HP-UX 9.07 to 10.20.
- Designed and implemented a backup strategy for the servers using Amanda and Perl.
June 1998-January 2000:Systems Administrator--James Franck Institute (JFI) and
Distributed Systems Management, University of Chicago
- Administered and maintained UNIX systems and servers for the Professors and staff.
- Upgraded and installed services on public Linux based machines.
- Wrote and implemented C-based systems programs for the public machines.
- Assisted in the development of a University-wide software distribution system for a variety of UNIX based machines across the university.
